🌍 Modern Foreign Languages

At Lowerhouses CE Primary School, we believe that learning a foreign language opens doors to new cultures, ideas, and opportunities. Our MFL curriculum inspires curiosity, builds confidence, and helps pupils develop communication skills that will support them throughout their education and beyond.

Weekly lessons in Years 3–6, taught using the Language Angels scheme of work, ensure that children progressively acquire vocabulary, language skills, and grammatical knowledge. Topics are age‑appropriate and carefully sequenced, enabling pupils to move from simple words and phrases to more complex, fluent, and authentic use of French.

To make progression clear and accessible, each MFL topic page now includes a Learning Journey. These journeys show how knowledge and skills build step by step across year groups, helping children, parents, and staff see the pathway of language learning from Year 3 through to Year 6.

By following these journeys, pupils can connect their learning across themes such as animals, family, food, seasons, hobbies, and world topics. This structure supports listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, while also fostering positive attitudes towards languages and encouraging lifelong learning.
