π What Weβre Learning
π Yellow Class β Autumn 2: Lights of the World
Welcome back! This half term, our exciting new topic is called βLights of the Worldβ. Weβll be exploring themes of light, celebration, and reflection across the curriculum.
π English
We begin by learning about Remembrance Day, asking the question: Why was the poppy chosen to mark Remembrance Day? Children will write poetry inspired by both Remembrance and our previous topic, The Great Fire of London. Later in the term, weβll enjoy festive texts including The Santa Trap, focusing on sentence starters, coordinating conjunctions (for, and, but, or, yet, so), and descriptive adjectives. Weβll continue to practise spelling key words and forming letters correctly.
π Reading
Reading remains central to our learning. Please read with your child every evening and sign their Reading Log to help them earn certificates.
π Little Wandle books must be returned every Monday morning.
β Maths
This half term weβre focusing on:
- Addition & subtraction with two-digit numbers
- Solving missing number problems
- Number facts to 20
βοΈ RE
Our big question is: Why does Christmas matter to Christians? Weβll reflect on the meaning of Christmas and share our thoughts in our class reflection area.
𧱠DT
Weβll explore stability and strengthening structures, inspired by Baby Bearβs chair.
