Welcome to Yellow Class! In Year 2, we’re all busy bees 🐝—curious, creative, and always ready to learn. We work together to build confidence, independence, and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

🌍 This Half Term’s Topic: What a Wonderful World! 🌈

This half term, our topic is “What a Wonderful World!” 🌍💛 We will be exploring the amazing places, people, animals and environments that make our world so special. Children will learn through geography, art, science and literacy activities linked to this exciting theme.

📌 Key Information

• 🏃‍♀️ PE Days: Wednesday and Friday
  Children must wear their PE kit and suitable footwear. Earrings should be removed or covered with plasters.

  Please sign your child’s Reading Log—this helps them earn certificates and build reading confidence.

• ✏️ Spelling Practice: Weekly spellings sent home
  Regular practice is essential for success in Year 2.

📚 What We’re Learning

📖 English

This half term we will be exploring stories, poems and non‑fiction texts linked to our topic What a Wonderful World 🌍📚. Children will learn to:

• write descriptive sentences using expanded noun phrases ✍️

• use coordinating and subordinating conjunctions (and, but, because, when)

• apply a range of punctuation ❗❓

• plan and write their own information pages about amazing places and animals

• continue practising neat, joined handwriting ✏️

🔤 Please continue practising weekly spellings at home — it makes a huge difference!

📚 Reading

Daily reading is essential in Year 2 📘💛. Please read with your child each evening and sign their Reading Log. When children reach the bottom of a page, they earn a reading certificate 🎉.

📕 Little Wandle books must be returned every Monday morning.

🔢 Mathematics

In Maths we will be learning about:

• 2×, 5× and 10× tables

• grouping and sharing

• dividing by 2, 5 and 10

📏 Length & Height

• measuring in cm and m

• Friday: Ball skills with coach Mr Conway ⚽

Children must wear PE kit and trainers/pumps. If they wear earrings, please remove them or provide plasters.
