π What Weβre Learning
π£οΈ Communication, Language & Literacy
- This half term, the class will be enjoying the stories The Train Ride π and Naughty Bus π. Children will explore the stories through roleβplay and smallβworld activities π, using props to help retell key events. Information books will support learning about different types of transport, and there will be lots of opportunities to listen for and join in with rhyming words πΆ.
- In phonics, the focus will be on hearing the initial sounds u, r, h, b, f, l at the beginning of words π€. Children will also practise oral blending of simple CVC words to build early reading skills ππ.
π’ Mathematics
- Maths learning will link closely to our transport theme, with opportunities to use vocabulary related to time β° and money π° during play. Sequencing activities will help children use the language first, then, after π§©.
- The class will also be introduced to 3D shapes πΊπ¦, explore prepositional language such as on, under and next to, and practise counting to 10 with 1:1 correspondence ππ.
π Understanding the World
- Children will explore how people and objects move across different environments π¦οΈπ. By looking at vehicles in the local area ππ, they will begin to recognise different types of transport and talk about how they are used.
- Sorting activities will help children group transport into land, sea and air categories πβ΅βοΈ.
- There will also be opportunities to learn about road safety π¦ and to use simple technology such as maps and digital tools to explore routes πΊοΈπ±.
π Physical Development
- Nursery PE sessions will continue to focus on fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping and balancing π€Έ. Children will also develop fine motor control through activities like threading, cutting and using tools safely βοΈπ§΅.
- π Nursery PE Day: Thursday
β€οΈ Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Independence skills remain an important focus, including practising how to zip coats and fasten buttons π§₯πͺ. Support with this at home is greatly appreciated.
- This half termβs Jigsaw topic is βRelationshipsβ π. Children will learn about their families, the names of family members and the different jobs people do π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦.
- We will explore friendship, how to make friends and ways to feel better when feeling lonely π€. Discussions will also help children understand kindness, unkind behaviour and how words can affect others π¬π.
π¨ Expressive Arts & Design
- Creative activities will be inspired by the world of transport π¨π. Children will explore different textures and materials to build simple 3D models such as buses or boats using recycled materials π¦π οΈ. Drawing, painting and imaginative roleβplay will also link to our transport theme βοΈποΈ.
πΉ Meet Our Nursery Guinea Pigs!Say hello to our adorable classroom companionsβour Nursery guinea pigs! These gentle little creatures bring so much joy and comfort to Rainbow Class. Children love helping to care for them, watching them nibble their snacks, and learning how to be kind and gentle with animals. Having guinea pigs in the classroom helps teach responsibility, empathy, and curiosity about the world around us. Whether theyβre snuggled in their cozy bedding or squeaking for a treat, theyβre always a favourite part of our day! π We make sure theyβre well looked after, and children are involved in feeding, cleaning, and giving them plenty of love. π₯π§Ί |
