Welcome to Orange Class!

Important information for Year 1

Our teacher is Mrs Newey and our teaching assistant is Mrs Hepworth.  


In our classroom you will find a colourful, happy and warm environment with lots of activities to do.

In our continuous provision, we have different learning areas that are suitable for all of our learning needs that help us to read, write, draw and explore to enhance our skills in all areas of the curriculum.

We love to investigate and find out lots of interesting facts about new topics to develop our knowledge and understanding of the world.

Daily routine

Every day we love to learn our phonic sounds through activities and games using an I-pad and the interactive whiteboard.

In English, we love reading and exploring different genres of books and re-telling them through sign and role-play.

In Maths, We enjoy using models and images to find the answers to tricky calculations and we love to solve challenges to show our understanding.

In an afternoon we enjoy doing lots of activities including, History, Science, Geography, Designing and Making,
Art – drawing/painting/colouring/cutting, Music, PSHE and Computing.

Each half term, we have a Geography/History focus where we develop and learn skills and knowledge. These are:

Autumn 1: Back to the future

Autumn 2: I spy...in my local area

Spring 1: Landscape of London and Amazing Africa

Spring 2: Fabulous figures

Summer 1: Journey to space

Summer 2: Extreme environments


There will be opportunities for parents/carers to come into Year 1 throughout the school year, to work alongside your child.


Important things to remember in Year 1:

  • PE takes place on a Monday afternoon and Friday afternoon.
  • Library is on a Tuesday.
  •  Spellings are given out on a Wednesday to practice at home and a test then takes place on the following Monday.
