The provision teaching base is called Gold Steps where a Teacher of the Deaf, supported by one teaching assistant, deliver a tailored curriculum in the mornings for literacy and numeracy. In the afternoons the children work in their mainstream classes with 1:1 support. For some children British Sign Language is the first and foremost method of communication and a qualified BSL signer is provided for these children to ensure they have full access to the teaching.
There is a positive approach to the inclusion of all pupils and children have access to all extracurricular activities. We encourage parents to come into school and be fully involved in their children’s education. During the year, a number of meetings and events are held with parents to discuss their child’s progression and a home school book is used to keep parents’ informed of forthcoming activities.
