We offer a range of music through the curriculum taught in class and also through the wider curriculum. There are lots of opportunities to sing, play instruments and perform together. We explore pulse, rhythm, pitch, duration, tempo, dynamics and sound through a wide variety of musical instruments. Music that is chosen is linked to the curriculum studied in class.
Every Tuesday, all the children take part in singing assembly, where there are lots of opportunities to sing songs related to Collective Worship themes. Songs form an important part of our celebrations of Christmas, Easter and Harvest services.
All the children in Year 4 learn to play the clarinet with a music teacher from Kirklees Music Service. There is also the option to continue to learn this or another instrument by parents booking and paying for lessons from the Kirklees Music Service. More details are available from the School Office by request.
Lowerhouses Signing Choir meets after school and the children enjoy participating in a range of singing events, including Kirklees Music Festival, Carol Singing at Christmas etc. Our weekly ‘Fab Friday’ reward for the children usually includes a music option for the children to sign up to. Last academic year all Key Stage 2 visited Sheffield Arena to participate in ‘Young Voices’ which is a massed choir from lots of different schools joining together to perform a range of music.
