Art & Design
At Lowerhouses school we believe that through art children can develop skills, imagination, self-discipline and the capacity to make decisions and solve problems. Art is a way of organising and communicating experience, feelings and ideas in visual and tactile form. Creative work develops self esteem and confidence and it adds richness and intensity to life. It is fun and enjoyable too! Children are given the opportunity to develop skills in drawing, painting, 3D work, collage, printing and textiles. The study of a wide range of artists, craftspeople and designers complements this work.
Design Technology is used to help children understand life around them. They are being prepared to make links with their knowledge, concepts and skills about the wider world of commerce and industry
Through project work children design, construct and manipulate a range of materials and tools to solve practical problems. They are encouraged to be problem solvers as well as being creative in real life situations.
They are encouraged to evaluate their ideas and consider what went well and how they could improve their designs in the future.
